great small watch keeps good time also great price
I ordered this BOSHIYA Smooth Quartz Pocket Watches for Men Classic Arabic Digital Luminous Dial & Day Date Pocket Watch for my teenage son.My husband has always loved pocket watches, and my son expressed an interest in carrying one. My kid loves midcentury menswear; he wears a coat and tie or suit to school by choice. This looked like a nice starter pocket watch, perfect for a teenager. It was aesthetically attractive, with a vintage feel, but it wasn’t expensive. It looked sturdy enough for a teenager, who isn’t always super careful with his stuff.I was pleasantly surprised with this watch when it arrived. It is an inexpensive pocket watch, but it is well made, with classic lines and styling. The watch face is about 1.8” tall, this is a small pocket watch, not a huge White Rabbit special. The watch is about 1/2” thick when closed. This comes with a fob, or chain. There are many ways to wear a pocket watch, this fob has the belt hook. This can be slid over the belt, then the pocket watch goes in the pants pocket. This can also be worn with a waistcoat with two pockets. Put the watch in one pocket, thread the chain through a buttonhole, then drop the belt hook in the other pocket, like you would with a t-bar chain. You can even wear this style fob with jeans. The belt hook slides over a belt loop, the watch slides in the pocket. The fob is about 14 1/2” long. The crown atop the watch face controls the watch. Pressing the crown opens the watch. Twisting the crown sets the date, week, and time. The watch is silver toned, made of a shiny metal. The watch face is white and easy to read. The hands have a slight luminosity in the dark. For the current price ($15.99), this was much nicer than I expected. No one would confuse this with a family heirloom handed down through generations, but it is attractive and sturdy and has a great old school style. This is perfect for training my teen now to use a pocket watch, after a few years maintaining this, he might be ready for a family heirloom watch on graduation from high school or for his 21st birthday. My son is drawn to the past. He loves reading history, he feels out of step in today’s modern, hurried world. My husband and I are the same way, we’re grateful for the tech and scientific and medical advances, but we look wistfully to the past at times. This pocket watch is evocative of an earlier era where people had a different relationship with time, and when every day items were manufactured with a certain style and attention to detail.Sure, this is a rosy view of the past, but I think we can learn from what came before our time. I love seeing my husband or son draw out a pocket watch on a long fob, it’s a graceful gesture from a time that, perhaps, has not completely vanished. This is an inexpensive watch, but it has some style. Great for gifting. These could make inexpensive groomsmen’s gifts, or a nice stocking stuffer, or just a cool little present. Maybe even a cool present for yourself, a way to carry time with you, a physical reminder of how valuable it is and how quickly it passes.
